Mystery series began during graduate school, 1979-1982. For me, it was a very deep psychological exploration into my emotions and conflicts. The search for self-empowerment continues as a personal theme throughout yet another series. The role of the detective parallels that of the artist. As an observer, I can investigate the scene, compile the facts or images and arrange them intuitively, and so the situation develops and takes shape. The direction of the work is always in the process of discovery.

Since I don’t know “who dunnit” either, the element of surprise is always present. At any moment, a new character may appear on the scene, reshuffling and reordering the whole sequence of events.  This is a very important and exciting element in the process which keeps the work alive and moving. I never know who’s lurking around the next corner, ready to emerge and take command of the situations.
